Akshaya Tritiya 2022: People celebrate with fervour, take holy dip in Ganga

  The celebration of Akshaya Tritiya 2022 is in its full fervour across the country on Tuesday. Starting the day with a holy dip on this occasion, people took a holy dip at the sacred rivers. In Varanasi, people worshipped Lord Vishnu, Goddess Lakshmi and paid obeisance to the deities after taking a holy dip. One of the devotees present at the venue said, "It is considered very auspicious to take a holy dip in River Ganga today. I am glad to be here with my family. Hema Malini says Mathura 'not a very clean place', flags cleanliness issues

  Actor-turned-politician Hema Malini on Tuesday flagged the issue of cleanliness in her parliamentary constituency Mathura. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP participated in the inaugural programme of a new government school building in Ishwariya village of Amreli district on Tuesday. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and state Education Minister Jitu Vaghani were also present in the programme. Addressing the gathering, Hema Malini said that she recently completed the 'Chaurai Kos Yatra', in which she covered various places associated with Lord Krishna in Mathura in Uttar Pradesh and neighbouring states of Haryana and Rajasthan. E-scooter fires: Govt orders forensic probe; to take action after report

  The government has taken very seriously the four incidents of fire in two-wheeler electric vehicles (EVs) in the past one week and will take appropriate action against the manufacturers after a forensic investigation, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari told Lok Sabha on Thursday. E-scooter fires He also said that as on March 25, as many as 10,76,420 EVs were registered in the country and 1,742 public charging stations (PCS) were operational. "A total of four incidents of fire in two-wheeler EVs have been reported in the past one week and this is a very serious issue. We have ordered a forensic investigation into each of the individual events from experts of Centre for Fire Explosive, DRDO and IISc, Bengaluru," he said during Question Hour. Read More

Hijab ban: SC to hear pleas against Karnataka HC verdict after Holi

  The Supreme Court on Wednesday agreed to list for hearing after Holi vacation the pleas challenging the Karnataka High Court verdict which dismissed the petitions seeking permission to wear hijab inside the classroom saying it is not a part of the essential religious practice in Islamic faith. Thailand halts quarantine-free entry for travellers as Omicron tops tourism

  Thailand halted its quarantine-free entry program after less than two months, citing concerns about the potential spread of the omicron variant by arriving tourists. The Covid-19 panel chaired by Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-Ocha suspended approval of visitors for quarantine-free entry from Tuesday to Jan. 4 amid rising imported cases of the strain. The Covid panel will reassess the policy on Jan. 4, said Deputy Prime Minister Supattanapong Punmeechaow. Tourism-dependent Thailand waived the requirement for more than 60 jurisdictions last month provided travelers were fully vaccinated and had negative tests for the virus both before and immediately after arrival in the country. South Africa readies hospitals as Omicron variant drives new Covid-19 wave

  South Africa is preparing its hospitals for more admissions, as the Omicron coronavirus variant pushes the country into a fourth wave of COVID-19 cases, President Cyril Ramaphosa said on Monday. Omicron was first detected in southern Africa last month and has triggered global alarm as governments fear another surge in infections. South Africa's daily infections surged last week to more than 16,000 on Friday from roughly 2,300 on Monday. Ramaphosa said in a weekly newsletter that Omicron appeared to be dominating new cases in most of the country's nine provinces and urged more people to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Read More

IRCTC to run 'Rampath Yatra' train from Gujarat to Ayodhya on Dec 25

  Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) will run the ' Rampath Yatra ' train on December 25 which will start from Gujarat connecting Madhya Pradesh to reach Ayodhya, informed Krishna Kumar Singh, Regional Manager of IRCTC on Tuesday. Addressing a press conference in Indore on Tuesday, Singh said, "The 640-seater train will start from Sabarmati station in Gujarat and reach Ayodhya the next day via Ratlam, Ujjain." Describing the journey to Ayodhya, the IRCTC Regional Manager said that devotees will be taken by road to Nandigram, Varanasi, Prayagraj and Chitrakoot from December 27. "The journey will take seven nights and eight days in which 320 seats will be in 3AC and 320 seats in sleeper coaches. IRCTC will make all the arrangements for food, accommodation of devotees etc for which Rs 12,600 will be charged for 3AC and Rs 7,560 will be charged for sleeper coaches via online booking," he said. Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan sent to narcotics agency's custody till Oct 7

  A local court on Monday extended till October 7 the NCB remand of Aryan Khan , son of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan , and two others in connection with the seizure of banned drugs from a cruise ship off the city coast, observing their further interrogation was required for investigation which is of prime importance. The trio was produced before the court after the end of their one-day custody given to the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Sunday. The NCB had arrested them after raiding the Goa-bound ship. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate R M Nerlikar also remanded to NCB custody till October 7, the six other accused who were arrested in the case late Sunday night and produced in the court on Monday. The court, in its order, noted that the investigation in the case was of prime importance and considering this aspect, the further presence of the accused before the NCB was necessary. DHFL corruption case: HC refuses bail to Yes Bank founder's wife, daughters

  The Bombay High Court on Tuesday refused to grant bail to Yes Bank founder Rana Kapoor's wife and two daughters in a corruption and cheating case involving private sector lender Dewan Housing Finance Corporation Ltd (DHFL). A single bench of Justice Bharati Dangre rejected the bail applications filed by Kapoor's wife Bindu and daughters Roshini and Radha. DHFL corruption case The three had approached the HC last week, challenging a special CBI court order of September 18 which refused them bail while noting that they had, prima facie, caused a loss of Rs 4,000 crore to the Yes Bank through illegal acts. The lower court had remanded them in 14-day judicial custody and said they did not deserve any sympathy for being women. Click Here

Court warns Kangana after she skips hearing in Javed Akhtar defamation case

  A Mumbai court on Tuesday allowed actor Kangana Ranaut 's plea seeking exemption from personal appearance for the day in a criminal defamation complaint filed by lyricist Javed Akhtar , and said it will issue a warrant against her if she fails to appear on the next date of hearing on September 20. As the matter came up for hearing, Ranaut's lawyer sought that she be exempted from appearance for the day as she was not keeping well. The lawyer submitted a medical certificate before the court and said the actor has been traveling for the promotion of her film and has "developed COVID-19 symptoms". However, Akhtar's lawyer said this is an orchestrated tactic to delay the case proceedings. The lyricist's lawyer further said Ranaut has refused to appear before the court for one reason or the other since summons were issued to her in February this year. Click Here
