Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg planning to launch NFTs on Instagram

  As NFTs are all the rage these days, Facebook chief executive officer (CEO) Mark Zuckerberg is planning to let Instagram users mint non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on the social media platform. As per The Verge, Mark made the announcement at the session at South By Southwest, but did not provide a specific date for when NFTs might drop on Instagram. NFTs on Instagram For the unversed, Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are a digital certificate of ownership of a piece of digital asset that can be bought and sold. During his speech, Mark stated that he hopes one day that users will be able to mint the clothes of their digital avatars as NFTs, but admitted there is still work to do before that can happen. Facebook parent Meta's social VR platform Horizon hits 300,000 users

  Meta's social virtual reality (VR) platform Horizon has reached 300,000 monthly users, a growth of 10 times since its roll-out in early December. According to a report in The Verge, Meta spokesperson Joe Osborne confirmed this, saying it included users of Horizon Worlds and Horizon Venues which is a separate app for attending live events in VR. Horizon Worlds was rolled out to Oculus Quest VR headset users in the US and Canada in early December. "It's time. 10,000 worlds have already been created. Drop in and play, build or just hang out. The possibilities are endless," Horizon Worlds posted in a tweet. Horizon Worlds was recently featured in Meta's Super Bowl ad, and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg called it "core to our metaverse vision". Facebook changes name to Meta as it refocuses on virtual reality

  Facebook Inc is now called Meta, the company said on Thursday, in a rebrand that focuses on its ambitions building the " metaverse ," a shared virtual environment that it bets will be the next big computing platform. The name change comes as the world's largest social media company battles criticisms from lawmakers and regulators over its market power, algorithmic decisions and the policing of abuses on its platforms. CEO Mark Zuckerberg, speaking at the company's live-streamed virtual and augmented reality conference, said the new name reflected its ambitions to build the metaverse, rather than its namesake social media service. The metaverse, a term first coined in a dystopian novel three decades ago and now attracting buzz in Silicon Valley, refers broadly to the idea of a shared virtual environment which can be accessed by people using different devices.
