Tokyo Olympics: Foreign athlete, 8 others test positive for Covid-19

  Organisers of the Tokyo Olympics on Tuesday confirmed that a foreign athlete has tested positive for Covid-19 at the Games Athletes' Village. As per Kyodo News, eight more people related to the Tokyo Olympics 2021 have also tested positive for the coronavirus. Earlier, a female gymnast from the United States tested positive for COVID-19 at her pre-Tokyo Olympic training camp. The athlete was training in the city of Inzai, Chiba Prefecture ahead of the opening of the Tokyo Olympics, as per Kyodo News. The name of the athlete has not been revealed as of now but it is being reported that the female gymnast is a teenager. Earlier on Monday, the Czech Republic's beach volleyball player Ondrej Perusic came out COVID-19 positive ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Ondrej is currently asymptomatic and is in isolation according to the rules. Click Here

Indian boxing's first Dronacharya awardee coach O P Bhardwaj passes away

  India's first Dronacharya awardee coach in boxing, O P Bhardwaj died on Friday after battling prolonged illness and age-related issues here. He was 82 and had tragically lost his wife Santosh to ill-health about 10 days ago. Bhardwaj was bestowed the highest national honour in coaching jointly with Bhalchandra Bhaskar Bhagwat (wrestling) and O M Nambiar (athletics), when it was introduced in 1985. "He had been unwell for many days with a lot of health issues and was hospitalised. Age was a factor and there was also the shock of losing his wife about 10 days back," T L Gupta, a close family friend and a former boxing coach, told PTI. Mary Kom, 2 others enter semis of Spanish tourney; assured of medals

Six-time world champion M C Mary Kom (51kg) was assured of a medal in her first competitive outing since qualifying for the Olympics last year when she entered the semifinal of the Boxam International Tournament in Castellon, Spain on Wednesday. The 37-year-old Mary Kom, who had not competed since her Tokyo qualification last year in Jordan, defeated Italian Giordana Sorrentino with a split verdict in the quarterfinal stage of the event. Also advancing to the medal rounds were Olympic-bound Simranjit Kaur (60kg) and debutant Jasmine (57kg), competing in her maiden international tournament. Jasmine defeated American Selma Medina in her quarterfinal fight, while Simranjit prevailed over Spaniard Eugenia Albons. Both the Indians notched up unanimous victories. Read More

Indian women's football team face Serbia in first of 3 FIFA friendlies

  New Delhi, Feb 16 (IASN) The Indian women's team is set to kick-off its preparations for the 2022 AFC Women's Asian Cup with three international friendlies in Alanya, Turkey, where in the first of these three matches, India square-off against Serbia on Wednesday. FIFA 2021 Coached by Maymol Rocky, the team has had a two-month training camp in Goa, before setting sail for Turkey, where midfielder Sangita Basfore will be leading the side. IPL 2021: Rajasthan Royals trade Robin Uthappa to Chennai Super Kings

Veteran India batsman  Robin Uthappa  has been traded to  Chennai Super Kings  in an all-cash deal, IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals said on Thursday. The 35-year-old right-hander from Karnataka had scored just 196 runs in 12 matches in the last IPL in UAE after being picked up by Rajasthan Royals at the last IPL auctions. "I really enjoyed my year at the Royals and had a great time being part of this franchise.
