Fitbit recalls millions of 'Ionic' smartwatches after battery burn reports

  Google-owned wearable brand Fitbit on Wednesday said it is recalling its 'Ionic' smartwatch following reports of an overheating battery and potential burn injury. Fitbit ionic smartwatch The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in the US said in a statement that at least 115 people in the US -- and 59 globally -- have reported an overheating battery on the device. There were 118 reports of burns, with two reports of third-degree burns and four reports of second-degree burns. "Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Ionic smartwatches and contact Fitbit to receive pre-paid packaging to return the device" the commission warned. Click Here

  Tech major Garmin on Thursday launched its latest premium smartwatch -- Fenix7 Series and epix, as it expands its wearables business in India. Garmin Fenix 7 series is the industry's first smartwatch with a built-in flashlight and also has an array of features like enhanced solar cell efficiency and longer battery life. This outdoor series features wear-resistant, scratch-resistant and anti-reflective high standard power sapphire as well as a highly permeable patented solar panel, Garmin said in a statement. Apple to release new watch on October 15 following production snags

  Apple Inc. set a release date of Oct. 15 for its latest smartwatch, a sign that it’s coping with production challenges that had dogged the new device. The company plans to begin taking orders for the product -- called the Apple Watch Series 7 -- this Friday, Oct. 8, starting at 8 a.m. New York time. It will then hit stores a week later, Apple said in a statement on its website. The Series 7 watch was unveiled on Sept. 14, but Apple left the release date vague at the time, saying it would be “later this fall.” The device has a bigger display, marking the first time the company has enlarged the watch’s screen since the Series 4 three years ago.
