WhatsApp confirms giving cashback for making digital payments in India

  Meta-owned WhatsApp has confirmed that it is running a cash-back campaign in India to drive more users on its digital payments service. The company is giving away Rs 11 cashback up to three times by sending money to three different contacts via unified payments interface (UPI) on WhatsApp. "We are running a campaign offering cashback incentives in a phased manner to our users as a way to unlock the potential of payments on WhatsApp," a company spokesperson told IANS. "We'll continue to drive awareness of payments on WhatsApp as part of our broader efforts to bring the next 500 million Indians onto the digital payments ecosystem," the spokesperson added. WhatsApp will soon let users choose video quality before sharing

  WhatsApp has started testing a new feature that lets users share videos in high quality. The name of the feature is 'Video Upload Quality' and it's currently under development, hence it's not available for the public. According to The Verge, the feature will be available for users in a future update. This new feature has been currently released as part of WhatsApp Android Beta version 2.21.14.6. In a future update, users will be able to choose the video upload quality by picking one of 3 options, namely, Auto (recommended), Best Quality, and data saver. In the case of auto, WhatsApp will detect the best compression algorithm for that specific video. Then another feature is the best quality one that lets WhatsApp always send the video using the best quality available. Click Here

Facebook, WhatsApp urge Delhi HC to stay CCI notice in privacy matter

  Facebook and WhatsApp on Monday urged the Delhi High Court (HC) to stay the Competition Commission of India (CCI) notice asking them to furnish certain information in relation to a probe ordered by it into the instant messaging app’s new privacy policy . A vacation bench of Justices Anup Jairam Bhambhani and Jasmeet Singh said it will pass an order on the application. During the hearing, the Bench said since it was sitting on a vacation Bench, it did not want to delve into the merits of the matter even as the main petitions are pending before a bench headed by the Chief Justice. “We will pass an order. The matter will be listed on July 9 (the date already fixed for the main petitions),” the Bench said. Read Full Article Here

WhatsApp announces VoIP support for KaiOS devices

  As a step towards reaching more people in emerging markets, KaiOS Technologies and WhatsApp have released an update that enables WhatsApp VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) for KaiOS-enabled devices worldwide. KaiOS is a mobile operating system, based on Linux, for keypad feature phones. It is developed by KaiOS Technologies Limited, a company based in Kowloon, Hong Kong. The new feature is available to smart feature phone users with the latest version of the app on KaiOS devices worldwide equipped with 512MB RAM. “People are relying on WhatsApp now more than ever to communicate and stay in touch with their loved ones.   WhatsApp users received an in-app notification on Wednesday asking them to either accept the changes in its Terms of Service and privacy policy by February 8 or their accounts will be deleted Millions of Indian users received an in-app notification from  WhatsApp  as part of an upcoming global roll-out for over 2 billion users, asking them to either accept the changes in its Terms of Service and privacy policy by February 8 or their accounts will be deleted. The in-app notification did not elicit much details but clicking on the links clearly mentioned the key changes in how WhatsApp will collect and process users' information going forward, and the partnership with Facebook, its parent company, as part of a larger unification drive between the family of apps.
