Hema Malini says Mathura 'not a very clean place', flags cleanliness issues

  Actor-turned-politician Hema Malini on Tuesday flagged the issue of cleanliness in her parliamentary constituency Mathura. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP participated in the inaugural programme of a new government school building in Ishwariya village of Amreli district on Tuesday. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and state Education Minister Jitu Vaghani were also present in the programme. Addressing the gathering, Hema Malini said that she recently completed the 'Chaurai Kos Yatra', in which she covered various places associated with Lord Krishna in Mathura in Uttar Pradesh and neighbouring states of Haryana and Rajasthan. Actor Madhuri Dixit expresses grief on Lata Mangeshkar's demise

  Veteran actor Madhuri Dixit shared a heartfelt tribute to late legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar who left for her heavenly abode on Sunday. Android 13 to add faster shortcuts for scanning QR codes: Report

  Android 12 has brought a lot of additional features and now a new report has claimed that the next-gen Android 13 platform may add the ability to launch QR code scans via the lock screen. According to Android Police, the screenshots show that one will get an option to enable "show QR scanner" on the lock screen. This feature is visible in the quick toggle settings. While Google might be planning to add this feature now, Samsung already offers this option. Shakti Mills gangrape case: HC commutes death penalty of three to life term

  The Bombay High Court on Thursday commuted to life imprisonment the death penalty awarded to three convicts in the 2013 gangrape case of a 22-year-old photojournalist inside the defunct Shakti Mills compound in central Mumbai, saying that they "deserve imprisonment for life to repent the offence committed by them". Shakti Mills gangrape case A division bench of Justices Sadhana Jadhav and Prithviraj Chavan refused to confirm the death penalty awarded to Vijay Jadhav, Mohammad Qasim Shaikh and Mohammad Ansari, and commuted their sentence to life imprisonment for the remainder of their lives. Google announces initiatives to help India's digital transformation

  With the aim to extend the benefits of India's growing digital economy to more people, tech giant Google on Thursday announced several initiatives to help India's digital transformation journey. The company announced a pilot of the first-ever Google Assistant-enabled, end-to-end vaccine booking flow that will guide users through the process of booking a vaccination appointment on the COWIN website. "We have worked closely with COWIN to enable this integration, where people everywhere will be able to easily book a vaccine appointment in a more guided manner," the company said in a blogpost. This feature will work in English and eight Indian languages including Hindi, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil and Telugu and will begin rolling out in early 2022. Read More

Interestingly, Japan is the only other country that had the same top password as India, new research showed on Thursday. Other common passwords people use in India are "iloveyou", "krishna", "sairam" and "omsairam", among others. According to new research by NordPass which is a proprietary password manager, predictable numerical and keyboard sequences are particularly popular in India. "Passwords such as 12345 and variations of qwerty were ranked high up in the lists. 5 distant relatives of Sushant Singh Rajput killed in Bihar road accident

  Six persons, including five distant relatives of late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput , were killed when their SUV collided with a truck in Bihar's Lakhisarai district on Tuesday morning, police said. Four others were injured in the incident. The SUV was badly mangled due to the impact of the collision. The truck driver and helper, however, managed to flee. According to the police, the victims, including two women, were returning from Patna to Jamui after the cremation of Haryana Additional Director General of Police O.P. Singh's sister. Singh is married to Sushant Singh's sister. The victims have been identified as Laljeet Singh (the deceased woman's husband), Nemani Singh, Amit Shankar alias Ram Chandra Singh, Sunita Devi, Anita Devi and driver Chetan Kumar. Read More

Facebook yanks Bolsonaro video claiming vaccines cause AIDS

  Facebook and Instagram have removed from their platforms a live broadcast that Brazil's President Jair Bolsonaro delivered in which he said people in the U.K. who have received two coronavirus vaccine doses are developing AIDS faster than expected. Facebook's press office confirmed in an emailed statement to The Associated Press that the content was removed Sunday night because it violated Facebook policy regarding COVID-19 vaccines . Our policies don't allow claims that COVID-19 vaccines kill or seriously harm people, the statement said. The company didn't respond to AP questions regarding why three days elapsed before the much-criticised content was removed nor whether language barriers played a role, as Bolsonaro was speaking in Portuguese. DHFL corruption case: HC refuses bail to Yes Bank founder's wife, daughters

  The Bombay High Court on Tuesday refused to grant bail to Yes Bank founder Rana Kapoor's wife and two daughters in a corruption and cheating case involving private sector lender Dewan Housing Finance Corporation Ltd (DHFL). A single bench of Justice Bharati Dangre rejected the bail applications filed by Kapoor's wife Bindu and daughters Roshini and Radha. DHFL corruption case The three had approached the HC last week, challenging a special CBI court order of September 18 which refused them bail while noting that they had, prima facie, caused a loss of Rs 4,000 crore to the Yes Bank through illegal acts. The lower court had remanded them in 14-day judicial custody and said they did not deserve any sympathy for being women. Click Here

Court warns Kangana after she skips hearing in Javed Akhtar defamation case

  A Mumbai court on Tuesday allowed actor Kangana Ranaut 's plea seeking exemption from personal appearance for the day in a criminal defamation complaint filed by lyricist Javed Akhtar , and said it will issue a warrant against her if she fails to appear on the next date of hearing on September 20. As the matter came up for hearing, Ranaut's lawyer sought that she be exempted from appearance for the day as she was not keeping well. The lawyer submitted a medical certificate before the court and said the actor has been traveling for the promotion of her film and has "developed COVID-19 symptoms". However, Akhtar's lawyer said this is an orchestrated tactic to delay the case proceedings. The lyricist's lawyer further said Ranaut has refused to appear before the court for one reason or the other since summons were issued to her in February this year. Click Here

Sidharth Shukla, 'Balika Vadhu' star, 'Bigg Boss 13' winner, dies at 40

  Popular television and film actor Sidharth Shukla , best known for his role in the long running TV show Balika Vadhu, died on Thursday, an official at the Cooper Hospital here said. He was 40. Shukla suffered a massive heart attack in the morning, accoridng to media reports. He is survived by his mother and two sisters. "He was brought dead to the hospital some time ago," the senior Cooper Hospital official told PTI. Sidharth Shukla's early life Shukla attended St. Xavier's High School, Fort, Mumbai and holds a bachelor's degree in Interior Design from Rachana Sansad School of Interior Design. He played against Italian football club, AC Milan’s under-19 team, on their Mumbai visit as part of Festa Italiana. Eyewear brand Lenskart to hire over 2,000 employees by 2022

  Omnichannel eyewear brand Lenskart on Wednesday said it plans to expand its workforce and add over 2,000 employees across the country by March 2022. In addition, Lenskart will also expand its international teams in Singapore, West Asia, and the US by adding 300 more employees. Lenskart has been aggressively hiring across verticals, especially the tech and data science team, roping in data scientists, business analysts, data engineers, and experts, a statement said. The company is looking to add 1,500 more retail employees "to manage their rapidly increasing stores" and over 100 engineers to the technology team across Bengaluru, NCR, and Hyderabad, it added.   Actor Shilpa Shetty on Monday issued a statement in the ongoing porn films case involving husband Raj Kundra arrest and requested people to respect their privacy, especially that of her children.   Financial payments services firm Square, run by Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey , has announced to acquire Australian company Afterpay for $29 billion in an all-stock deal. Afterpay, the pioneering global 'buy now, pay later' (BNPL) platform, will accelerate Square's strategic priorities for its Seller and Cash App ecosystems. Square plans to integrate Afterpay into its existing Seller and Cash App business units, enable even the smallest of merchants to offer BNPL at checkout. The integration will also give Afterpay consumers the ability to manage their installment payments directly in Cash App, and give Cash App customers the ability to discover merchants and BNPL offers directly within the app, the two companies said in a joint statement late on Sunday.   YouTube on Wednesday said it has added a new 'Super Thanks' that will offer a new monetisation mechanism for creators on the platform. Fans watching YouTube videos can now purchase 'Super Thanks' to express their gratitude and show support, a statement said. "They will see an animated GIF and, as an added bonus, get a distinct, colourful comment to highlight their purchase, which creators can respond to. Super Thanks is currently available at four price points between USD 2 and USD 50 (or local currency equivalent)," it added.   Instagram said Wednesday it is testing a new feature called ‘Collab’, which will let people collaborate on Feed Posts and Reels. The feature is being rolled out in India and the United Kingdom.
