Google I/O 2021: Android 12, Wear OS, Smart Canvas, AI and more announced

 

Google I/O is an annual developer conference where the technology giant showcases its innovation competence with regard to products and services. This year, the company showcased some futuristic technologies besides detailing the upgrades coming to Android and Wear OS operating systems for smartphones and smartwatches, respectively. Google has come a long way enhancing its Android operating system for smartphones. The next iteration of the OS is set to get major design changes, including a revamped look called ‘Material You’ that dynamically changes the user interface and its elements based on users activity, apps, time of day, weather, etc. In retrospective, OPPO experimented with something of similar sorts in its Android 11 based ColorOS11 custom skin. The Chinese smartphone maker integrated tons of UI customisation options within the user interface to give the OS a new look. Garmin Fenix7 series, epix smartwatches launched in India: Details here

  Tech major Garmin on Thursday launched its latest premium smartwatch -- Fenix7 Series and epix, as it expands its wearables business in India. Garmin Fenix 7 series is the industry's first smartwatch with a built-in flashlight and also has an array of features like enhanced solar cell efficiency and longer battery life. This outdoor series features wear-resistant, scratch-resistant and anti-reflective high standard power sapphire as well as a highly permeable patented solar panel, Garmin said in a statement. Facebook parent Meta's social VR platform Horizon hits 300,000 users

  Meta's social virtual reality (VR) platform Horizon has reached 300,000 monthly users, a growth of 10 times since its roll-out in early December. According to a report in The Verge, Meta spokesperson Joe Osborne confirmed this, saying it included users of Horizon Worlds and Horizon Venues which is a separate app for attending live events in VR. Horizon Worlds was rolled out to Oculus Quest VR headset users in the US and Canada in early December. "It's time. 10,000 worlds have already been created. Drop in and play, build or just hang out. The possibilities are endless," Horizon Worlds posted in a tweet. Horizon Worlds was recently featured in Meta's Super Bowl ad, and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg called it "core to our metaverse vision".
